XIII Creeks
We are not just a magazine, 13 Creeks is a movement. We sought to focus on giving the Ohio Valley and surrounding regions a voice, to tell the stories which weren't being told. Providing resources has also been at the heart of every issue, and through our time as The Beacon, we hope to have shed light on various issues while highlighting the diversity and creativity of the region.
From the expansive forests of Beaver Creek State Park to the sacred grounds of Moundsville, this magazine belongs to everyone. Out name, 13 Creeks, reflects our focus to cover the. tributaries from north to south which flow into the beautiful Ohio River. We aim to dissent against disparities of the region while honoring and celebrating its rich heritage. 13 Creeks is not just a magazine, it is the confluence of heritage and dissent.
To grow, we must first cultivate and invest in our readers. We hope to create a welcoming and specifically curated experience with each issue. 13 Creeks will accomplish this by publishing content our readers won't find anywhere else that will inform, inspire, and engage the Ohio Valley.
In order to truly revitalize, we must invest in the equity of all readers. Not everyone is born with the same advantages or opportunities as their neighbor. That's why one of 13 Creeks's primary aspirations is to provide resources in one, easily-accessible publication to those who need them. From mental health to food assistance, we believe everyone should have access to these resources, regardless of any financial barrier. By leveling the playing field, we can insure the entire region can be informed, enriched, and heard.
Each month, we present fresh, innovative takes on culture to educate our readership. By exposing ourselves to lifestyles, cultures, or mindsets with which we are not accustomed, we can all broaden and improve our understanding which only strengthens out communities. Through knowledge comes empathy, through empathy comes respect.
Because someone doesn't see or experience something does not mean it isn't happening. That's why another core value of 13 Creeks is to empower the diverse communities of this region. Arming people with the tenacity and resilience to stand for their values, equality, and respect, one of the most important things we can do is advocate for ourselves, our families, and our neighbors. A stronger, more inclusive future is the path to a better, brighter Ohio Valley.
Moving forward does not mean abandoning our past. The Upper Ohio Valley and surrounding regions hold deep and ancient history. Our cultures are as diverse as the seasons. If we keepsake our past, we will preserve the best of us for the future. 13 Creeks aims to highlight, not just our unique and beautiful landmarks, but the stories and nature within the watersheds. If we celebrate and protect our cultures, we leave a path forward for the next generation, and our societies at large. With these stepping stones, we ensure whomever crosses these creeks next will not have to start where we did, but stand on our progress toward a better tomorrow.
13 Creeks is not just a magazine, we aim to support the present to expand the future; to enable everyone to gain the ability to sustain our home with dignity and respect; to archive our heritage, while dissenting to anything else.
